I ll always choose a lazy person to do a difficult Job. Because he will find an easy way to do it.
- Bill Gates
If not always but Lazy persons outsmart others with their innovative ways of completing a task easily. This is because they use the available resources optimally. They use others brain, hard work, talent and put all their effort and skill in doing so. All they could think of is how to portray themselves as original with brilliantly managed sourcing of data.
Sometimes for good but many time causing troubles for others who believe in original. In context to website content everyone is concerned about plagiarism, copyright violation, stolen contents etc. But the world of lazy persons are finding innovative ways of outsmart you all. Since I am not one of those I cant share you the recent ideas but I ll share one such which I have come across recently.
Being a newbie blogger I have been very fascinated about promoting my blogs and receive comment. So to increase my reader base I followed steps like content syndication and RSS feeds. I submitted my blogs rss feed in a feed directory as part of my blog promotion strategies. The process which I have learnt by reading other blogs and I was excited to see stats of my blog in that feed directory. Sadly none of my blog readers were directed to my site as my entire content was available in the feed directory,so obviously no one clicks on the link as they don’t need to. I felt little upset but then it was fine as those readers were not mine anyway. At least my blogs are getting noticed. But to my surprise when I did relevant phrases search in google, I found that my latest posts are appearing in the feed directory website and mine is not visible anywhere in google. So I went back to webmaster tools to check and I found those pages are not indexed because of duplicate content. Google has considered the feed directory as original and mine as duplicate, hence not indexed.
But I can’t blame the directory as I have submitted my RSS feed myself. The point of sharing this story is
-Know what You are doing and be Proactive, refer suggestion but never be 100% sure
-Note Down and memorize your internet activities, evaluate results of those activities
-Not allow your content to stolen,Follow basic rules and think of you new ways how it can be stolen
Then claim to have the possession of your 100% original content- ALWAYS
Protecting website content
1. Disable right click
Do this if you are not indexing a page or post of your website to search engine because if it is stolen and indexed in other website, it will be treated as original content. The lazy person then have to take a screen shot or type it himself which is less likely because he is LAZY. You may also look for scripts which will disable screenshot on your website.
2. Login to read
I have used this awesome app from facebook where One has to login with his facebook id to read your post. This reduces the chances of copying as Lazy person don’t like to reveal their identity.
3. Water Mark Images
Your images are hard to be protected and very prone to be stolen. A watermark mentioning your website or your logo on the images can be useful to claim ownership even if its stolen. I actually like watermarked images to be stolen as it promotes my website too while copy or when sent as an attachment.
4. Branding your identity
Especially for my blogging friends it is essential to put your author/admin details in your blog. Reader should know you and then identify you with your blog writing styles. For companies they spend on branding like putting a logo or maintaining special fonts for their website.
5. Content Syndication and RSS feeds
Be careful while choosing where to syndicate blogs. Go for the known and reputed websites. In all case, never ever feed your entire blog post even if you loose some readers. Ensure only your link is published with a snippet of your post leading to your website.
6. Copyright
Putting the copyright notice on the bottom of a site states that the material displayed is not to be used without permission of the owner. You may also register your copyright by paying fees depending on law of land. List of websites for online registration for different countries.
7. Write an e mail to the lazy website owner
If you find your content copied and readable in some other website, you need to first contact the website owner or administrator asking him to remove it immediately. Generally admin contact information is available in all websites, if you don’t find any then look for it in WHOIS web services. If he doesn’t respond to or argues with you over the post then you may proceed to below points.
8. Refer to Digital Millennium copyright act – DMCA
It criminalizes production and dissemination of technology, devices, or services intended to circumvent measures (commonly known as digital rights management or DRM) that control access to copyrighted works.
9. Protecting through applications.
There are other ways to protect your site through internet resources if you are conversant with website programming.
Still don’t be sure, your content could be published somewhere.
But never get upset, frustrated or angry. keep up what you are doing and you’re doing good. Its only you who can justify and answer comments on those articles best. Get inspired but believe in original, your content may be accidentally plagiarized. So don’t always trust search engine algorithms instead escalate it with them. Make a noise and be heard, don’t be lazy like the other who caused this pain to you.
